Skipton’s Greatwood Community Primary School welcomed two special visitors, the FA Cup and former Manchester United centre back Gary Pallister.
Greatwood was one of ten schools chosen from hundreds that entered a competition run by leading home appliance brand, Beko, in children’s newspaper First News.
To be considered, entrants had to submit a photograph of a class, club or school team posing with a cardboard cut-out of the FA Cup.
The competition was judged at Wembley Stadium by First News editor Nicky Cox, FA director of Football Development Sir Trevor Brooking and Beko marketing director Teresa Arbuckle.
The judges praised Greatwood’s entry, saying the youngsters had put a large amount of effort into making a giant FA Cup from silver foil.
Last Wednesday, the cup visited the school along with Gary Pallister, who took part in a coaching session with the school football team and attended an all school assembly where he was quizzed about the history of the FA Cup.
He also gave advice on how to be a future footballing star. Sir Trevor said: “The FA Cup is the world’s most prestigious domestic cup competition and has a fantastic heritage and reputation for being inclusive.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Beko to take The FA Cup to schools and communities all over the country giving hundreds of children and families a once in a lifetime chance to see the FA Cup close-up.”
