Craven people have been thanked for helping to rebuild the Kaluwanchikudy School on the east coast of Sri Lanka.
The school was destroyed in the tsunami of December 2004 and was rebuilt using money raised by Rotary clubs in Yorkshire, with a considerable amount being donated by the people of Craven.
Several schools along the coastline were rebuilt with money donated by Rotary Great Britain, the school at Kaluwanchikudy being designated the Yorkshire school, with classrooms named after Yorkshire towns including Settle.
On a recent visit by Settle Rotary’s vice president Ian Johnson and his wife, Barbara, the children and staff asked that their thanks be passed to the people of Craven for their help in providing a new school for them and future generations.
