There will be an exhilarating flying display at Cononley Sports and Gala Day tomorrow.
One of the highlights will be a performance by the world-famous aerobatic team The Blades.
They fly four Extra 300 purpose-built aerobatic aircraft, a display which showcases the jaw-dropping capabilities of the aircraft and the skills, experience and heritage of the pilots, all former members of the Royal Air Force Aerobatics Team the Red Arrows.
The Blades’ performance will take place at 4.40pm.
Other highlights include crowning of the gala queen, Poppy Wilson, a dog show organised by Ashlands Vets, children’s races and egg throwing, a pub tug-o’-war and a new junior tug-o’-war, fell races, country dancing by the children of Cononley Primary School and live performances by Dales Jam and Cononley Singers.
There will also be a sumo wrestling ring and a pillow fight.
Visitors are encouraged to dress up as their favourite musicals character and come to the playing field where the procession departs at 1.30pm.
After touring the village, the procession will return at 2pm.
Judging of the children’s fancy dress will take place at 1.15pm – so contestants should be on the field at 1pm. Floats need to assemble at Moorfoot Lane.
Entry to the gala is free but visitors are encouraged to buy a raffle ticket at the front desk.
This year there are more than 20 prizes.
To round the day off, the public is invited to a party in the park, starting at 7.30pm in the marquee.
Live music will be provided by local band The Rhythm Junkies.
Tickets, which cost £10, includes the band’s performance, a disco, hog roast and bar.
They are available from the post office.
Volunteers are needed to help on the day. Anyone interested can ring Kath on 01535 635238 or James on 01535 959109.
Proceeds from the gala will go towards ongoing improvements and maintenance of the playing field facilities, including new bandstand floor, play area safety surfacing and general repairs.
