FREE training from experts on ways to beat extreme weather and deal with emergencies is being offered by community organisation Rural Action Yorkshire.
The group has asked representatives of fire, police and ambulance services to give guidance on protecting homes and lending support to neighbours in severe winter weather.
The meeting, under the title 'Keep Calm and focus on Community Resilience', will take place in Victoria Hall, Settle, on Thursday, February 26, from 4pm to 6pm.
Event organiser Martha Holmes said: “Support to rural areas in the face of public cuts is one of our top priorities. This training will empower people to think about the ways in which they can make sure they are ready for emergency situations. We are keen to hear ideas.”
Among topics to be covered at the meeting are fuel poverty, dealing with winter weather, and helping vulnerable people who may be at risk of isolation, loneliness, or with health and wellbeing issues.
