LANGCLIFFE Singers will perform their summer concert at St James' Church, Clapham, next Saturday, July 11.
The programme will feature two main works – Henry Purcell's Come Ye Sons of Art and Serenade to Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
As the favourite composer of King William III, Purcell was given the task of composing odes for the 33rd birthday of the king's wife Queen Mary II, on April 30, 1694.
Come, Ye Sons of Art was the sixth and final ode and comprises several movements. Between each movement, choir member Liz Neale will read a stanza from John Dryden's A Song for St Cecilia's Day and soloists will be Sheila Hartley (soprano), Julia Glossop (contralto), Audrey Daley (contralto), Stephen Hogg (countertenor) and Richard Williams (bass).
Mr Hogg will also sing Purcell’s setting of An Evening Hymn and Crown The Altar from the fifth birthday ode, Celebrate This Festival, while Robin Knipe will be soloist in Purcell's Tis Nature's Voice, Vaughan Williams' The Turtle Dove and Percy Grainger's Brigg Fair.
Different sections of Langcliffe Singers will take on the "solo" parts in Vaughan Williams' Serenade to Music, which was written as a tribute to conductor Sir Henry Wood to mark the 50th anniversary of his first concert.
Organist will be Alistair McKenzie.
The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £10, are available from Cave and Crag, Bentham Post Office, Skipton Camera Centre and on the door.
