PUPILS at Horton-in-Ribblesdale CE Primary School are celebrating the arrival of a new wooden climbing frame.
Fabricated and installed by Playscapes Design Ltd, the climbing frame offers a multitude of adventurous routes and activities and complements existing equipment.
“The new climbing frame is a fabulous addition to the grounds at Horton School," said one parent. "The children are so lucky to have such beautiful surroundings for playing, learning, doing Forest School and sports. They get excellent academic results, but they also have a lot of fun.”
The school has regular Thursday afternoon Forest School sessions, to which children from the wider community are invited. Sessions involve adventurous activities, such as using tools to chop and whittle wood, den building, creating environmental art, cooking on an open fire, playing hide and seek and creating new menus in the mud kitchen.
A school spokesman said: “The Forest School sessions are great fun but also develop the children’s problem solving, team working and creative skills.”
An open day has been planned to celebrate and showcase the school and its achievements on April 23, between 1pm and 4pm.
Visitors can join in Forest School activities, examine the new climbing frame, enjoy refreshments provided by the Friends of Horton School and view the school's classrooms and facilities.
