THERE was a welcome return for the Young Farmers’ Club 76th show held at Rathmell Old School, Rathmell, and adjoining fields at the weekend.

Following a two year enforced break because of the coronavirus pandemic, there was a great turnout of entries in all sections and the exhibits were of an excellent high standard throughout, say organisers.

The cattle and pig classes had been judged on farm, dairy by Mic Newbould and beef and pigs by Ian Townson with Anna Booth taking champion dairy with her dairy cow and reserve with her heifer. In the beef section Thomas Capstick was awarded champion with his beef animal 12 to 30 month old and reserve to Ronan Frankland for his beef animal three to 12 months old.

In the sheep classes judged by Kit Dean there were 100 head of stock on the field with a great line up in each class, the biggest entries were 10 Continental gimmer lambs, nine Mule/Masham ewe and nine pairs of butchers lambs making a great show.

The champion female was awarded to Jack Foster with his native bred ewe and reserve champion to Ruby Thomas with her horned ewe.

The champion male was awarded to Connor Robinson with his ram lamb and reserve to Liam Moorhouse with his Continental ram.

Going on to take supreme champion of the show was Jack Foster and reserve supreme Ruby Thomas.

The indoor classes were well supported too with a great array of baking and crafts, eggs, flowers and veg too. Members were congratulated on an excellent show. The ducking stool provided great entertainment too!

The prizes were announced by Anna Booth, club chairman; and trophies and prizes were presented by president Peter Halliday.

A vote of thanks was given by vice chairman – Jake Booth who thanked all judges and sponsors and everyone who had supported the show and taken part on the day making it a great success.
