Millions of viewers will see Barnoldswick ’s town crier facing the judges on television’s biggest show.
Eliza Mowe’s audition for X Factor is due to be screened, after she caught the eye with her town crier costume.
“It was an amazing, thrilling and surreal experience,” said Eliza, who performed the high-pitched song Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush.
“I felt like a wailing cat,” she said. “I didn’t want to make a fool of myself, so I sang it in a lower key. But I kept my dignity.”
“I got four nos, but the judges were all very interested in town crying,” said Eliza. “It was nice to be on telly and doing TV is a great way to promote Barlick. It’s such a wonderful town to cry for.”
“Playing the town crier card definitely got me through,” she said. “Before I got my first audition, I was standing in the queue in my town crier outfit and they were quite intrigued.”
After performing her first audition and two others the next day, she received a phone call three weeks later asking to do some town crying in Manchester. She then got the chance to audition before four X Factor judges - Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and former Spice Girl, Mel B.
“I’ve been a big fan of the show for a long time and it’s always been my dream of mine just to get in front of the judges,” said Eliza, who did not make it through to bootcamp.
Although the judges did not vote her through, Eliza remained upbeat and said their comments were not too negative.
