How many people are on this picture? That was the question posed to visitors at this year’s 30th Grassington Festival, which has just come to an end.
The painting, called Festival, was created by Hebden artist Jan Richardson and is a bright representation of Grassington Festival over the past 30 years.
It was on show at the Celebrations art exhibition, staged in Grassington Town Hall throughout the two-week festival, and visitors were challenged to guess the number of people in the painting.
The answer is 1,041 – but guesses ranged from 102 to 14,100!
Three people had equally-close guesses and, after a draw, Hebden resident Terry Dean was declared the winner. She receives a limited edition print of the painting.
The original is still for sale, with the latest bid at £1,999. There are also prints available at £100 and postcards at 50p.
Anyone interested, or who would like to see the original with a view to purchase, should e-mail jjff@waitrose.com.
