One hundred and eighteen years after the first school on the site was opened by Sir Charles Tempest of Broughton Hall, Janet Tempest officially opened a new extension to St Stephen’s Catholic Primary School on Gargrave Road, Skipton.
The school has recently been judged as outstanding by Ofsted and by the Catholic Diocese of Leeds.
Accompanied by her sons Roger and Piers, Mrs Tempest joined the children of the school for an assembly and cut a ribbon to open the new entrance hall and teaching space after they had been blessed.
Headteacher Peter Thompson said: “The school is blessed with a great sense of continuity and community, enabling it to continue to welcome new generations of young people for years to come.”
