RELATIVELY mild weather in Settle must have pleased Elsa and Olaf, characters from the Disney movie Frozen, when they switched on the town's Christmas lights on Saturday.
They must also have been happy that well over 1,000 people went along to see them throw the switch on what organisers say is "probably Settle's best-ever display".
And two of Santa's reindeer also put in an appearance to delight the children in the crowd, as did the fireworks display. And Santa did his best to meet as many children in his grotto as he could possibly manage.
Amy Robinson, one of the organisers, said it was "amazing and very gratifying" to see such a large turnout for the event.
She said: "Tony Hardwick, John Diggles, Christine Holdsworth and myself have been working on this since last February, so to see so many people come along on the night was absolutely fantastic - there wasn't a single space in Settle.
"There's been a lot of blood, sweat and tears but to see so many enjoying it makes it all worthwhile!"
She added that the success of the switch-on could be put down to "a real community effort" by Settle townsfolk.
"We have had fantastic sponsorship from local businesses and the town council made a great contribution to the fireworks. Cllr Richard Welch paid for the road closure out of his own pocket and there has been a huge amount of support in the town. We'll be starting to prepare for next year very shortly!"
