CARLETON-IN-CRAVEN Village Archive team is busy preparing its latest exhibition, which will be staged during the weekend.
Its focus is The Significant Buildings in Carleton and the village’s history research group has produced informative panels to give the background of the buildings, including The Swan Inn, the 1849 and 1861 mills, Spence’s Court and The Grange.
The digital archive, which was set up in 2009, now holds more than 1,600 photographs of Carleton and its past and present residents.
The exhibition will display about 200 of these, including more than 80 not seen at previous events. There will also be various supplementary displays, including parts of the First World War centenary research shown at St Mary’s Church in August.
Archive members will be on hand to help those researching the history of Carleton families, and there will be screenings of films detailing residents’ memories of Carleton and of the 2012 Jubilee Gala.
The exhibition will be staged across three venues – Carleton Village Hall, Carleton Endowed School and St Mary’s Church – on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. Entry is free, but donations towards the exhibition costs are welcome.
St Mary’s Coffee Pot will serve refreshments and parking will be available in the school playground. All venues have disabled access.
Meanwhile, the archive team is continuing to look for new contributions and pre-1980 photographs of Carleton. E-mail carletoncommunity@gmail.com or call 01756 794226.
