WORK has been carried out at Austwick Cemetery.
In early spring, a group of volunteers got together to begin a tidy up of the cemetery. Many trees and bushes were pruned and the drains repaired and some new ones laid.
The main path on the north side was cleared of weeds and moss, but the path on the south side of the cemetery was in worse condition and Commercial Ground Works Ltd was called in to re-lay it.
Re-laying the path required 100 tons of gravel, and this was supplied free of charge by Tarmac Lafarge from its Arcow Quarry at Helwith Bridge. "This was a great help and we are very grateful," said a village spokesman.
Further work will be carried out this autumn and next spring.
