A COUPLE'S fight over care costs for a seriously ill pensioner featured on television after it was highlighted on our website last week.
Camera crews from Yorkshire regional news programme Calendar spent two hours filming Gargrave Alzheimer's sufferer Mollie Maud on Monday.
Her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Malcolm Laithwaite, say they are being forced to pay unfairly for the 86-year-old's care.
Mr and Mrs Laithwaite, from Barnoldswick, say they are spending almost 40 hours a day between them caring for Mrs Maud because they want her to spend the remainder of her life at home.
Although they praised care staff and nurses, they described the policies of local health service providers as "disgusting" and have vowed to go to court over several disputed care bills.
Mollie's plight featured as Calendar's lead story on Tuesday and Mr Laithwaite said supportive text messages and emails had flooded into the studio.
This week, the North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust issued a statement.
It said: "As with all patients in similar situations, the PCT has carried out a full assessment of the patient's condition in partnership with social services and mental health services and patients are continually re-assessed under the PCT's continuing care policy.
"We are confident that the care needs of the patient are being met."
