A ROUTINE civic function held a surprise for Pendle's mayor when he found himself reaffirming his marital vows.
Coun George Adam was attending "Marriage Matters - a Celebration of Ghyll's 850 Years", at Barnoldswick's Ghyll Church, when his wife, Rose, sprung the surprise ceremony on him - complete with page boys and maids of honour. The mayor and mayoress were joined for Friday's ceremony by other civic leaders and church supporters.
Meanwhile, local businesses donated gifts, including flowers and finery, to add to the day's aesthetic appeal.
