THE search is on again to find some of Skipton's best gardens.

Skipton Town Council is, once again, running its popular Gardening Competition to tie in with work on the town's entry into the Yorkshire In Bloom competition.

Local residents, businesses and allotment holders are all invited to take part in the competition - aimed at helping make Skipton a more colourful and attractive place to visit during the summer months.

There are eight categories to enter - ranging from best front or back garden, through to best hanging basket or display, with separate categories for green-fingered businesses, pubs and restaurants. There is also a special category for town council allotment holders at Middletown, Broughton Road and Burnside.

Skipton Town centre manager, Dave Parker, said: "Our gardening competition is becoming increasingly popular each year - we've already had a lot of enquiries from local people asking if we're running it again this year.

"It's a great opportunity to build on the formal work being done for Skipton In Bloom - and everyone taking part is adding to the atmosphere and attractiveness of the town. We hope even more people will take part this year, and we're really looking forward to seeing the results of everyone's hard work."

Entries need to be submitted no later than Friday June 29 - and judging will take place throughout July.

Trophies and gardening prizes will be awarded for first, second and third in all categories and an awards ceremony will be held in the autumn at Craven Court Shopping Centre.
