PENDLE Council is reminding residents what they can do about anyone who makes their lives a misery by making unacceptable noise.

To mark Noise Action Week, which runs from May 21 to May 25, the council is asking people to consider the noise they make themselves and the effect it has on others, consider the types of noises that disturb them most, use practical solutions to everyday noise problems and to respect their neighbours.

Coun John David, executive member for the environment, said: "Over the last year Pendle Council has responded to nearly 800 complaints of noise from local people. Almost 700 of these were about domestic noise, such as loud music and televisions, dogs barking and DIY noise."

The council says it has been "very successful" in prosecuting noisy neighbours.

Earlier this year, two people were given criminal anti-social behaviour notices for noise nuisance.

Coun David added: "These orders, the first of their kind in Pendle, ban people from making excessive noise - and they risk going to prison for up to five years if they break them. These orders should act as a warning to people that we do take noise nuisance very seriously in Pendle."

Anyone who suffers from the effects of noise nuisance in Pendle should report it to the council on 01282 661199 so that environmental officers can get involved.

Alternatively email environmental.neighbourhoods@pendle.gov.uk or report it online via the council's website.
