THE Priory Church at Bolton Abbey will be the setting for a musical evening organised by the Rotary Club of Skipton.

The concert will take place on Friday and will raise funds for Rotary charities.

Starring acclaimed organist Dr Simon Lindley and Keighley Vocal Union, the programme will feature memorable settings of sacred scores, including Vivaldi's Gloria, Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus and Handel's Silent Worship.

The second half has a lighter note with familiar tunes such as Londonderry Air (Danny Boy) and The Way You Look Tonight.

In what promises to be a rousing finale, the choir and organ combine to perform Parry's Coronation anthem "I was glad when they said unto me".

Keighley Vocal Union was formed in 1906 and has won many prestigious competitions, particularly in recent years under the musical direction of Frank Smith.

Dr Lindley is one of Yorkshire's best-known professional musicians. He is the Leeds City Organist and organist and master of the choir at Leeds Parish Church. He has performed throughout the world, most recently touring the UK with the Warsaw Philharmonic and Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

Rotary Club president, Mark Facer, said: "Each year the club tries to organise a prestigious musical event and we are delighted that this year we are able to hold it at the Priory Church. You couldn't get a better setting for a nice summer evening.

"Because of the generosity of the event's sponsors, we have managed to cover the costs of staging the concert in advance, which means that every penny raised from every ticket sold on the night will go direct to our charities - a mixture of local and international good causes."

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £10, are available on the door.
