SKIPTON Charities Gala Committee has handed over £2,000 raised at the 2006 event to 15 local good causes.
Committee chairman Geoff Dunn, of Silsden, paid tribute to former president Fred Dawson, who died earlier this year after giving more than 70 years of service to the gala, assisted by his wife Doreen.
Mr Dunn also introduced newly-elected president, Georgina Stodart, who has a 34-year association with the gala, having served on the committee for many years.
He also appealed for volunteers to come forward to help out at this year's action-packed event, which takes place on Saturday June 9.
Cheques were presented to: Grassington & District Helping Hands, Skipton & Settle Division Girl Guides, 9th Skipton Christ Church Scouts, Skipton and Craven Action for Disability, Skipton Town AFC, 5th Skipton Parish Church Scouts, Skipton Phoenix Club, Skipton Church Institute CC, Skipton Youth and Community Centre's Gateway Club, the RSPCA, Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Skipton Tourist Information Centre, Skipton Volunteer Centre and Skipton Holy Trinity Church Keyholder Project.
