GRASS sledging, soft air pistol shooting and bell boating were on the agenda for the Craven District Centenary Scout Camp in Gargrave.

A full programme of activities was put on for the boys, including a performance by Magik Mark, orienteering and making rope bridges.

There was also a barbecue lunch for parents.

The youngsters were among hundreds of scouts from all over the world attending camping weekends to celebrate the movement's 100th birthday.

Elsewhere, 85 youngsters linked to Ingleborough District Scout Group pitched their tents in a field at Silloth House in Austwick, and took part in late night orienteering, following a trail over Oxenber, zip wiring teddies across a stream, preparing meals on an open fire and a water pistol range.

Meanwhile Cubs enjoyed an exciting walk in the dark, decorating staves and totem poles, action games, an observation walk, making smoke cannons and lanterns and a mock archaeological dig.

On Sunday evening everyone joined together for a service led by Rev Rachel Wilson, followed by a campfire with songs and sketches.

The group also welcomed Dennis Foster, County Agent, as well as Gerald Snowden, County Scouter with responsibility for Cubs.

Ingleborough was also one of only six districts in the North of England to be visited by the Deputy Chief Scout, Peter Nicol.
