A MOTORIST escaped unhurt when his car burst into flames on the Aire Valley trunk road near Kildwick last night.
The driver pulled into a layby moments before the fire, after a fault developed.
Firefighters from Keighley – backed-up by a North Yorkshire crew – were called out at about 8.30pm to deal with the incident, on the Kildwick to Silsden section of the A629.
The blaze started in the engine compartment of the Ford Focus and spread into the front passenger area.
A hose reel and one breathing apparatus set was used as firefighters brought the inferno under control.
"When we arrived at the scene the driver – who had realised there was a problem before the fire started – had got out safely," said a Keighley fire service spokesman.
"The vehicle was quite extensively damaged."
