A WEST Marton woman has been warned she faces a possible prison sentence after admitting going into a house uninvited and stealing a mobile phone.
Adele Evans, 39, entered the house in Greatwood Avenue, Skipton, through an unlocked door, ending up in an upstairs bedroom, where the resident couple were in bed, Skipton magistrates heard.
In a statement read out in court, resident Harry Barker said Evans, whom he knew, opened the bedroom door, came over to the bed and started talking to his partner about difficulties with her partner.
He said they had heard someone in the house, coming up the stairs at 9.45pm on April 10 and believed it to be his son.
He took Evans out of the bedroom and downstairs, where she asked him for £5. He told her to get out and locked the door behind her. The next day, he discovered his Samsung mobile phone was missing and reported it to the police.
Evans said she had gone to the house because she had needed money and because Mr Barker had told her to ask if she ever 'needed a sub', the court heard.
In mitigation, Keith Blackwell said Evans, who accepted she had a problem with alcohol and drugs, had been at the house the previous day.
"Mr Barker told her if she ever needed a sub to let him know. The following night she was desperate for money and remembered what Mr Barker had said. She went to the house, tried the door and went in. She went upstairs and woke the parties up," said Mr Blackwell.
Mr Blackwell explained Evans had been drinking. "It was not the classic burglary. She woke them up and made the request, will they lend her some money."
Mr Blackwell said Evans accepted she was trespassing and took the phone when her request for money was turned down.
She had not immediately sold the phone on, and when the police came to her house, she handed it over to them.
Magistrates told Evans, of Tosber Syke To School, that custody was a real possibility before adjourning sentencing for a full all-options report, to May 27. She was allowed bail on condition she did not go to the house in Greatwood Avenue for any reason.
