Church news: On Sunday, to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, there will to be a special service at 10.30am at Austwick for all local churches and communities. Following the service, there will be a Jacob’s Join lunch on the green or, if wet, in the parish hall. Bring your lunch and celebrate together. Music will be provided by the Jukebox Junkies and the church choir. There will also be a Holy Communion at Keasden Church at 2pm.
Bowling Club: On Sunday, Austwick was at home to Kirkby Lonsdale and just lost by five games to four. The points reflected the closeness with Austwick 102 and Kirkby 108. This Saturday, members will compete for the Home Guard Trophy, which will be hosted by Ingleton. Also taking part will be Bentham and Burton-in-Lonsdale. Names should be in by noon for a 12.30pm start. On Sunday, there is the club’s Triangle Trophy competition, which will start at 2.30pm.

BOLTON ABBEY

Priory Church: The Priory Church will only be partly open during the week until further notice while specialist parts are being made for the new lighting scheme. The church is fully open during the weekends. During June, the church is running a photographic competition for visitors to Bolton Abbey. Each week the photographs will be judged and the winner will receive a prize. Please send your entries to webmaster@boltonpriory.org.uk with a note of your name and a caption. On Sunday there will be a said Communion at 8am, a Sung Eucharist at 10.30am and Evening Prayer at 6.30pm. On Wednesday there is a said communion service at 10am and this week it will include the Ministry of Healing. All services are the Book of Common Prayer.
Summer concert: Cantores Olicanae will present A Summer Serenade at Bolton Abbey Priory Church next Saturday, June 18. The choir will be joined by trumpeter Geoff Cloke and the Robert Sudall Jazz Trio. Tickets are £12 from The Grove Music Shop and on the door.

Bradley Show: The newly extended Bradley Show, to be held on September 3 and 4, needs your support. There are a variety of roles including programme secretary, raffle secretary, poultry steward, duck race organiser, first aider and gate stewards. If you are able to help please add your name to the list of jobs, which is at the village store. New for this year will be a fun dog show and the show classes will be open to everyone.
Telephone mast: Tomorrow is the closing date for submitting comments on the 60-ft high telephone mast planned for a site between the canal and the A629 south of Ings Lane. It will be partly screened by trees to a height of about 20 feet. Summer concert: Bradley Methodist Church will hold a charity concert next Saturday, June 18, at 7pm in the schoolroom. There will be a variety of local performers, including the school, musicians from the village and members of Skipton Amateur Theatre Group. Tickets are available from Bradley School, the village shop or on the door. Cancer Research UK and March For Mangoes, set up to support the Kambe Timboni Community in Kenya will benefit from the proceeds.
Yoga: Sue Hartley runs a yoga class in the village hall on Tuesdays from 7.15pm to 8.15pm and Ann Berry has a Friday session from 10am to 11.15am. Participants are asked to bring a yoga/exercise mat if possible.

CARLETON

Skipton Gala: Carleton’s Gala Queen and her attendants will take part in Skipton Gala on Saturday. Look out for the swan float in the parade.
Town Hall Cafe: Carleton School PTA will run the cafe at Skipton Town Hall on Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm. This is an important fundraiser for the school.
Street party: A street party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday will be held on Sunday from noon. Dress in outfits from the 20s, 30s or 40s. There will be singing and dancing as well as entertainment from the Carleton Sisters and a swing band. Some tables and chairs will be available but you may need to bring your own. Set up by noon when the road will be closed outside The Swan and Village Hall. Bring your own food and drink - hot water will be available at the village hall. There will be contingency plans if wet.
Carleton Playgroup: The playgroup meets in the village hall every Friday during term-time between 9.30am and 11.30am.
St Mary’s: On Sunday, there will be a parish communion at 11am. Coffee Pot is open every Friday from 2pm to 4pm for tea, coffee and hot chocolate with complimentary biscuits.
Bingo night: A bingo night will be held at The Swan Inn on Wednesday at 8.30pm. Cash prizes will be available.

CONISTON COLD

St Peter’s Church: On Sunday, St Peter’s will hold a special Service at 11am to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday - with special anthems sung by the village choir, a talk about the Queen’s life, and prayers for the Queen, our community and ourselves.
Young Farmers: Last week, Young Farmers met at Hellifield Playing Fields to practise for the Settle District Sports Night and for a game of rounders. Members were selected for each race at the district competition such as 100m and 200m. The district sports will be held at Settle College on Tuesday, from 6.30pm.

Queen’s 90th Birthday: Draughton’s celebration of the Queen’s 90th Birthday will take place on Sunday, starting at 11am outside the village hall. There will be a full day of games, events and activities. Earby Gardeners: Earby and District Gardeners will hold a committee meeting on Wednesday at 7.30pm in the New Road Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend to discuss the Bulb Show, and the August Horticultural Show, allotment judging and winter programme.

Summer break: The Over 50s Club and Indoor Bowls have now finished for the summer. Both will recommence in September.

Library: Today, Thursday 9th June is the last day for entries to the library’s Design and Make A Crown competition to mark HM The Queen’s 90th birthday. All the crowns will be on display in the village hall on Saturday. The library will also be open on Saturday morning and afternoon, so that visitors to the afternoon tea party can also change their books.
Embsay churches: On Sunday, St Mary’s Church will hold a communion service at 9.30am while the Methodist Chapel’s 10.30am service will be led by David Allison. On Tuesday, St Mary’s will hold a quiet Communion service at 10.30am and from 2pm to 4pm the church will be open for tea, coffee, home baking and conversation. The toddler praise, Smiley Faces, takes place between 1.45pm and 3.15pm. Next Saturday, June 18, the annual vicarage garden party will be held in the vicarage grounds on Shires Lane between 2pm and 4pm.
Parish council: This weekend Embsay and Eastby will celebrate HM The Queen’s 90th birthday. On Saturday from 3pm to 5pm there will be afternoon tea in the village hall with a touch of Royal Variety. The afternoon will include the presentation of special gifts to the two residents of the village with 90th birthdays closest to either the natural birthday of the Queen (April 21) or Saturday. The entertainment continues from 7.30pm to midnight with music from the last 90 years and a themed buffet designed by Joe Pugh and laid on by the Cavendish Arms. Tickets, priced at £10, are now in short supply.
Shoppers’ bus: Keelham Farm Shop is running a free Shopper Hopper bus service between Embsay and the Skipton shop every Thursday. It will leave the village hall at 10.03am, 11.28am, 12.58pm and 2.23pm and will also pick up at the end of Brackenley Lane and at Crossbank.
Village Show: Embsay-with-Eastby Village Show will take place on Saturday, September 3, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in the village hall. Categories include flowers, fruit and vegetables, baking and preserves, handicrafts and photographs as well as children’s sections. Schedules are available at the Post Office, Library and other outlets.
Steam Railway: On Saturday, Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, whose director John Beesley designed the main logo for the Embsay and Eastby Queen’s birthday event, will run a specially-decorated train and offer reduced fares throughout the day.
Women’s Institute: The WI will meet on Tuesday at 7.30pm when Les Griffiths, a First Response expert from Wakefield, will give a talk and demonstration on Defibrillator Awareness. Visitors are welcome.
Hot Chocolate Club: The Hot Chocolate Club is on the lookout for new leaders, male or female, with plenty of energy who would be prepared to spend a couple of hours on a Friday evening playing games. All offers of help should be directed to Joanne Dyson.

St Andrew’s Church: Tomorrow afternoon, Kildwick School will come to the church for its whole school collective worship. On Sunday, there will be services of Holy Communion at 8.15am and at 10am and at 6pm there will be a special service of Choral Evensong sung by the Epiphany Singers in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday. On Sunday afternoon, the church will be open to visitors from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and tea and scones will be served in the parish rooms. Each Wednesday, there is a service of Holy Communion at 9.30am in the parish rooms. The grand Kildwick Summer Fair will take place on Saturday, June 25, from noon to 3pm.
Village Pump: The Village Pump – the over 50s group – will meet in Kildwick and Farnhill Institute on Wednesday from 2pm to 3.30pm.
Coffee Morning: The Methodists’ monthly coffee morning will be held on Saturday from 10am to 11.30am in Kildwick and Farnhill Institute. The proceeds will be given to the Salvation Army.

Art classes: Watercolour art classes start in the village hall annexe today at 10am. Further sessions will be held on June 16 and 23. Heritage Group: The talk by Dr Gillian Waters, entitled Gargrave Divided - A Tale of Two Manors, has been postponed from tomorrow to Friday, September 9.
Ballroom dance: The next village hall dance is tomorrow from 8pm, with the entertainment being provided by Elizabeth Harrison. Entry is £5.
Open gardens: Gargrave Open Gardens event takes place on Saturday from 11am to 5pm. There are some new gardens in the mix this year and live music will be provided by performers including Skipton Music Centre’s Big Band, the Fairfax Singers and Grassington Handbell Ringers. Liz Hunt, the spiritual gardener, will host an Informal Gardeners’ Question time at the Dalesman Cafe (which includes garden A) from 11am to noon and from 4pm to 5pm. In between, she will walk around the gardens - look out for the lady with the sunflower! Advanced tickets are on sale at £4 at Crossgates (North Street) and Twin Locks. Entrance on the day is £5 for adults and free for children.
Flea Market: The village hall flea market will be full of stalls on Sunday between 10am and 4pm. There will be the usual good selection of antiques, collectables, jewellery, books, small furniture, bric-a-brac and crafts. Refreshments available and there will be a well-stocked outdoor plant stall courtesy of Faye`s Flowers.
St Andrew’s Church: On Sunday, after the traditional BCP Communion at 8am, there will be the village celebration at 10.45am to mark the Queen’s official 90th birthday. It will include special anthems sung by the village choir, a talk about the Queen’s life and an interview about Gargrave during her reign. There will also be a competition to decorate a cake to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen between noon and 1pm in the church. There will be a class for 11 years and under and a class for everybody else. Slices of the cakes with a cup of tea or coffee will be served from 2pm.

Chapel concert: There will be a concert by the Lancaster Singers at Giggleswick School Chapel on Saturday. Entitled Across the Pond: Music for a Summer Evening, the programme will feature music from England, America and Canada. Tickets cost £10, with students in full time education free. Theatre events: On Sunday, Community Cinema will show Dad’s Army at the Richard Whiteley Theatre. This starts at 3.30pm and admission is £5.50. Next Saturday, June 18, Tom Figgins will perform at the theatre. Tom’s music has begun to establish a regular fan base and is starting to be heard on Radio 2 and BBC Introducing.
Giggleswick School: Giggleswick School will hold an open evening on Monday with tours of the school from 5.30pm. Whist and dominoes: Thirty-nine people enjoyed an evening of whist and dominoes at Gisburn Festival Hall on Saturday. Hellifield Gala: The theme for this year’s Stars in Your Eyes on Friday, August 5, will be Gone, But Not Forgotten. Artistes can use either karaoke or backing tracks or perform live with instrument accompaniment. Dancers, magicians etc are welcome. It is a popular event, which will proceed the gala on Saturday August 6. Practices will be held in Hellifield House and dates will be notified in due course. Women’s Institute:The May meeting of the WI involved a quiz, baby/toddler photograph guessing competition, a demonstration of ‘soft pots’ and a display of nightwear. Coffee morning: Saturday’s coffee morning in the institute will be a fundraiser for the institute itself. It will start at 10am and will include a cake stall and raffle.
Boiler Appeal quiz: A ‘Guess the number of bricks in the church wall’ competition, held to raise money for the Boiler Appeal at St Aidan’s Church, produced the following winners: closest to the witnessed count of 2,945 bricks was: Peter Richardson, 2,895, £25; Ian Richardson, 3,027, £7.50; and Roger Dakin, 3,274, £2.50.
Book Club: The Book Club meets in Hellifield House tonight at 8pm. The book for discussion is Kes by Barry Hines. All are welcome.

Church news: The fundraising committee wishes to thank everyone who supported the events held in the institute on Sunday afternoon. There was a great atmosphere and the following amounts were taken; tombola £84, craft stall £45, mouse hunt £20 and teas £436. After all expenses had been paid, a grand total of £537 was raised. The winner of the mouse hunt was Amie Greer-Todd. This weekend, to mark The Queen’s 90th birthday, the church will hold an exhibition, called 1926 and All that Jazz. It will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Please let Kate (822875) know if you have something that could be displayed. Also on Sunday, there will be a special Choral Evensong at 6pm, with the Choir of Giggleswick Church, to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.
Whist drive: The next whist drive will be held tomorrow at 7pm in the institute. Admission is £2, including supper. There will be a raffle. New players are welcome.
Sunday teas: Bentham Pet Rescue will be serving this weekend's Sunday Teas in the institute from 2pm to 4.30pm.
Parish Council: To celebrate the Queen’s official birthday, the parish council wants everyone to come together for a party in the village on Saturday at 4pm. Please decorate your house to celebrate!

LOTHERSDALE

Over 60s: Viki Bowden from Yorkshire Air Ambulance was the speaker at Lothersdale Over 60s. Viki told how the YAA was founded in 2000. It now owns two helicopters which cost £4.4 million per year to run. Two replacement helicopters are on order and they will cost £5.8 million each so continuous fundraising is essential. A collection was taken which raised over £165 for the charity. The next meeting is on Wednesday when Brian Clough will present a slide show entitled South Africa.

U3A talk: Nigel Linge will be guest speaker at today’s meeting of Settle District U3A. He will give a talk entitled The Call What He Made. It will take place at Settle’s Victoria Hall, with coffee available from 10am and the talk at 10.30am. Visitors are welcome for an admission fee of £1.
Volunteering: If you ever have time on your hands or you want to do something to help in your community but don’t quite know where to begin then the answer will soon be on your doorstep. Every Thursday a volunteer will be available in Settle Library to assist you with information about volunteering opportunities in the area. There will also be assistance available during this time for any inquiries on researching family trees.
Victoria Hall: Tomorrow there will be a visit from Sam Carter, winner of the Radio 2 Folk Award for best newcomer. This is part of the tour to launch his new CD, How the City Sings. Gallery on the Green: The gallery is currently staging an exhibition of silk paintings by local artist Christine Carradice. The countryside of the Dales – the limestone crags, green fields, drystone walls, barns, farmhouses and flowers – have all been captured on silk. Christine’s paintings, which are popular at the Dales National Park shops, are inspired by the Dales. The exhibition runs until Saturday, July 23.
Settle Saunter: The eighth annual Rotary Settle Saunter takes place on Saturday. There are four routes on offer (nine, 12, 16 and 22 miles) to accommodate a wide range of abilities. A comprehensive route description is available to all entrants. The routes can either be walked or run and will take in villages, hamlets and countryside. There are checkpoints with light refreshments and a hot savoury meal is provided at the end. The saunter is open to all, but youngsters under 18 can only tackle the three shorter routes. Entries can be made in advance or on the day (an additional £1 surcharge applies). This year the funds raised will be shared between Settle Swimming Pool, Clapham Cave Rescue Organisation and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Voices of Craven: Communities in Chorus is a project across the area in which local groups have come together to sing, coached by Tom Leech, the director of the diocese of Leeds singing programme. Throughout June there will be a series of concerts by local professional soloists and musicians culminating in a grand finale where all will perform together. Tickets are available via 01756 7488080. On Monday, soprano Sarah Fox will return to her home ground to perform in a Last Night of the Proms-style concert celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday at St Alkelda’s Church in Giggleswick. On Wednesday, June 22, there will be an evening of Community Singing at Holy Ascension Church, Settle, with John Bell of the Iona Community. The Grand Finale is a concert at Giggleswick School Chapel on June 25 which will feature local choirs and a small orchestra.
The Folly: On Sunday, at 1.30pm, there will be a special World War One centenary cricket match at Settle Cricket Ground between Settle and Skipton. The match commemorates a match played near the front line at Fleurbaix in France in June 1915 by the men of the 1/6th Battalion of the Duke of Wellington’s (WR) Regiment in 1914-16. All are welcome.
Operatic Society: On Wednesday, Settle Amateur Operatic Society will begin auditions for its annual performance. This year they will be performing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s first musical, The Likes of Us, which is the story of Dr Barnardo. The informal get together will take place in the Old Court House on Station Road at 7.30pm. This will be followed by workshop sessions which will take place in the parish hall of St Mary and St Michael on Kirkgate, at 7pm on Monday, June 20, and Wednesday, June 22. All are welcome, particularly new faces.
Amnesty International: The next Amnesty letter writing session will take place at Friends Meeting House in Kirkgate on Wednesday between 5pm and 8pm. Settle Orchestra: Settle Orchestra’s summer concerts will feature three outstanding young soloists who are past or present members of the orchestra – Ellen Buller (flute), Patrick Martin (trombone) and Max Heaton (marimba). Fiddle workshops: The second in a series of folk fiddle workshops will take place at Friends Meeting House, Kirkgate between 2pm and 5pm next Saturday, June 18. The cost is £20 and it is aimed at anyone who is interested in learning how to play the fiddle in “folk style” (as opposed to classical violin). An ability to read music is not essential. The fee will cover tuition by a qualified and experienced professional, refreshments and copies of both sheet music and recordings of the music for you to take home to use to practise. Messy Church: This month, the messy church goes “on safari” to Malham Tarn next Sunday, June 19. Transport leaves St John’s Church at 2.30pm. There will be a chance to share a picnic and enjoy the outdoors. Messy church activities are free but there will be an opportunity to contribute to costs of food and transport if you wish. Photographic Group: Settle Photographic Group will meet on Monday, June 20, for a members’ discussion night on “What do we do with our images?” This will take place at 7.30pm at Townhead Court and it is hoped that the discussion will include a pooling of ideas for options for collating, organising and viewing photographs. The theme for the gallery will be Reflections.
The Folly: There are plans afoot at The Folly and everyone is invited to take time out on Monday, June 20, between 3pm and 8pm to find out more at a drop-in session at The Folly. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of Settle’s only grade one listed building and to examine plans to transform the building into a major heritage and arts attraction and community facility. Come along and have your say and share your ideas and feedback.
Settle Stories: Settle Stories will hold a special event later this month when renowned Belgian storyteller and musician, Iwan Kushka, visits the town to present True Moon Tales – a story concert for adults. Come and experience the ancient Indian legend of The Transported Heads – in which two boys meet one girl and lose their hearts (and heads) in the process. Kushka will be joined by guitarist William Benzies and violinist Becky Doe. This event will take place at the Royal Oak on Friday, June 24, at 7.30pm. Flower Pot Festival: It’s time to start thinking about flowerpots! Everyone is invited to help brighten up the town ready for the annual flowerpot festival in July. The festival aims to involve local organisations, businesses and individuals in the hope of raising a smile by decorating the town with quirky flowerpot characters. Silent auction: A silent auction will be held at Castlebergh Drill Hall on Saturday, June 25, between 11am and 5pm. Settle Scouts are currently fundraising to improve their Drill Hall premises and have teamed up with a number of local prominent and renowned artists for a special auction. There will be refreshments served throughout the day and arts and crafts for young people.
Tramps film: The next foreign film session at Victoria Hall will take place on Wednesday, June 29, when the film will be Le Meraviglie (The Wonders). This will be in Italian with English subtitles. The film focuses on the life of a family living a back to nature existence in rural Tuscany and how the arrival of a film crew from a TV reality show disrupts their life. The show starts at 7.45pm and admission is £5.
Women’s Institute: Members were given a presentation with slides by Martin Davies, of the National Trust in the Dales. He described how an anonymous donor of a million pounds, some of which came to the Dales, went some way towards restoring eroded peat beds, so important in holding back the volume of water now threatening our rivers and towns. To the same end he described how the National Trust was planting native trees in gullies leading to the rivers and replacing conifers in similar areas. Forthcoming WI events include support for the Settle v Skipton cricket match on Sunday and providing refreshments at the Great Yorkshire Show in July. Jeanne Carr thanked the group for her bursary to visit Denman College and described her enjoyable weekend visiting Royal castles on the Thames and learning their histories. The competition for a personal photo of a National Trust site was well supported.

Fair fun: Roll up to St James Church on Saturday from 11am to 3pm when All the Fun at the Fair will be on offer. Attractions will include a coconut shy, wet sponges, roll-a-penny, hook-a-duck, tin can alley plus live music from Fresh Aire. Fill yourself with burgers, hot dogs, tea, coffee and finish off with a strawberry tea.
Amnesty Group: On Saturday, the Silsden Amnesty Group will hold a sponsored walk in support of Amnesty International and Fresh Lives, Keighley. Participants will follow the seven-mile Roman footsteps walk, which can be found in Cathy Liddle’s book, Discovering Silsden. Annual gala: Entry forms are available for this year’s gala procession. Why not get together with a group of friends and join in. Classes are: vehicular floats, gala queens and walking groups. There is a form on the gala facebook page ‘Silsden gala’ for anyone interested and the gala will be held on Sunday, July 31. Entries need to be in by July 1.
Outer space: A hugely enjoyable “day in outer space” attracted a large number of children and parents to an unusual event at Silsden Town Hall on Saturday, run jointly by Keighley Astronomical Society and the Friends of Silsden Town Hall. Inspired by the feats of astronaut Major Tim Peake, the youngsters first learned about the planets and how to identify features of the night sky. They then joined a rocket-making workshop, with a final successful launch by everyone who took part. The children also enjoyed making their own ‘space cadet’ badges and they joined Tim Peake in writing and sending a ‘greetings from space’ birthday card to Her Majesty the Queen. Thanks to funding from Keighley Area Committee of Bradford Council, book prizes were awarded for the most original messages appearing on the card.
Proms on the Farm: It’s almost that time again. The Proms on the Farm team are readying themselves for the 2016 Last night of the Proms concert in a Yorkshire farmer’s field. It will take place on Saturday, July 23, and the field will be open for people to get prepared from 2pm with the music starting at 7pm. Tickets are £10 and can be purchased from Twiggs newsagents or by phoning 01535 654509. Awning space must be pre booked. Music this year will be provided by the Ripon City Band playing the prom favourites and featuring soloist Sarah Halstead. Also performing will be the Sultans of Swing and The Big Bang. All proceeds will go to Manorlands and the Methodist Church.
Car boot sale: The next Silsden Car Boot Sale on Riverside Field, Keighley Road will take place on Sunday. The gates open at 7am with toilet and catering on site. Holy Trinity: On Saturday – Skipton Gala Day – visit Holy Trinity’s Café for either a hot or cold drink, depending on the weather. On Sunday, from 11am, there is the opportunity for you to come into the church and enjoy a toast to the Queen. At 6pm there will be a special service celebrating her reign with hymns, music and a quarter peal rung on the church’s bells. On Tuesday the Toddle into Church activities for babies and pre-school children are in the Vestry Rooms between 2pm and 3pm while on Wednesday there is Holy Communion at 10.45am using The Book of Common Prayer. The Coffee Shop is open from 10am to 2pm, Wednesday to Friday.
Italian Circle: The Skipton Italian Circle will meet at the Soroptimist Rooms, Otley Street, Skipton at 8pm on Thursday, June 23. The meeting is a social evening where members and friends will share experiences of trips to Italy, including amusing, interesting or unexpected incidents. No knowledge of Italian is needed, just an interest in Italy. Refreshments are served from 7.30 pm. Admission is free for members and £5 for visitors. All welcome.
Christ Church: Family Eucharist will be celebrated in Christ Church on Sunday at 9.30am and Evening Prayer at 6.30pm. The regular weekly service of Holy Communion will take place at 9.30am on Wednesday, followed by Toddler Praise, a period of talk, activities and refreshment for accompanied young children in Christ Church Hall (term time only). Christ Church Brownies meet on Wednesdays between 6.15pm and 7.30pm during term time. The Queen’s Birthday will be celebrated with an anniversary tea in Christ Church Hall between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday. Flower Club: Members of Steeton Flower thoroughly enjoyed their first meeting at the new venue of Glusburn Institute when they heard from Janine Gray about her life as a florist. Having brought with her what seemed like most of the contents of her shop, Janine entertained everyone while producing beautiful examples of her fascinating work, including a bridal bouquet, buttonhole and table arrangements. The vote of thanks was given by Dorothy Chiverton. The next meeting is at the Glusburn Institute 7.30pm on Thursday, June 23, when Sandra Harder will lead a skills night showing how to make interesting designs by manipulating leaves. Parish walk: On Sunday, June 26, Rosemary Hartley and friends from the Overground, Underground Festival will lead a parish walk. Meet at Uncle Jeremy’s Household shop in Ingleton at noon to register for free. It is a robust walk of 5.6 miles and participants are asked to bring their own picnic lunch.
Flower festival: A flower festival will be held at St Oswald’s Church from Friday, July 1 to Sunday, July 3. It is a free event with many things to do and see. Refreshments and cream teas will be available each day from 10.30am to 4pm. All are welcome.

TOSSIDE

Whist donation: A whist and domino drive held at the community hall raised £151 for St James’ Church, Dalehead. Thanks go to all who attended or made donations. There were 11 tables in play and MCs were T Robinson and P Metcalfe. Bags 2 School: Threshfield School will benefit from a Bags 2 School collection on Friday, July 6, from 8.30am to 9am. Collection can be arranged through Sophie Caygill on 730277 and bags can be provided. Acceptable items include clothing, coats, paired shoes, handbags and bed linen, but no bric-a-bric. All money raised will go to the Friends of Threshfield School, which helps funds extras for pupils. This year, they have funded SATS books, netball posts, playground equipment and are currently updating the library and learning area.

Organ recital: Ian Thompson will give an organ recital at St Mary’s, Conistone, on Saturday at 7.30pm. It is part of the village’s 90th birthday celebrations and admission is £7.50 for adults and £1 for children.

WIGGLESWORTH

Community Centre: Tonight’s ladies walk will set off from the centre at 7.20pm if you need a lift or just meet at Rathmell car park at 7.30pm. It will be another route around the Rathmell area. Craven Crafts meets tomorrow from 1pm to 4pm. Saturday’s Bacon Butty Morning is from 11am and will be followed by the Queen’s Birthday Celebration from 4pm. Hopefully it will be outdoors but, in case of bad weather, it will be set up in the hall. There will be soft drinks available but if you want something a little stronger, bring your own. It is a Jacob’s Join so bring a plate of something to share with friends and neighbours. The Bacon Butty Mornings needs volunteers.
