Julie is the managing director of Crossgates, health, hair and beauty, at Gargrave. The next meeting is the annual general meeting, which will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 13, in the Parish Hall and will be followed by refreshments. The WI will be taking part in the MacMillan World’s biggest coffee morning on October 1, 10.30am-12.30pm in Austwick Parish Hall. As well as coffee, biscuits and scones there will be a cake stall and raffle Church Walk: The Rev Canon Ian Greenhalgh will lead a walk on Saturday over to Feizor and back. Meet at the church at 9.30am. On Sunday at 9.30am there is Holy Communion at Austwick Church; 11am Holy Communion at Clapham; 6.45pm Harvest Thanksgiving at Keasden; 7pm Evensong at Eldroth.
Bowling Competition: Austwick Bowling club held its last competition on Saturday. The Captain’s Day winner was J Berry and the runner-up was T Kerr. It has been suggested to continue meeting on Saturdays at 1.30 pm as long as the weather holds and the green is fit to play on. Barnoldswick Rotary Club: How does a gas fitter become a podiatrist? One way was explained by Alan Hardman in a talk to fellow members of Barnoldswick and Earby Rotary Club. He said he was born in Rochdale and later went to school in Padiham. He was advised by a careers officer to become an apprentice gas fitter, which he did, and passed his exams to qualify after five years, going on to serve as a fitter. He was also in a pop group. Then he decided to go back to night school and gained an A-level in human biology, studied anatomy and went on to be fully-qualified in podiatric medicine. He decided to work for himself and got a lot of customers, but wanted to move into the Health Service. He had stints at Calderstones and Brockholes Hospital. Then he managed to become full time with the NHS, for 20 years before retiring from the clinic at St Peter’s in Burnley.
Bolton Abbey Priory Church: The regular Sunday services are Communion (said) at 8 am, 10.30 am Sung Eucharist and Evening Prayer at 6.30pm. On the first Sunday of the month there is the Liquid Family Service at 9.15am. This is a fun service for all the family with songs, prayers and activities. On Wednesday there is a said communion service at 10am. Today, Thursday, there will be a Ministry of Healing Service at 7pm in the Priory. On Monday at 7pm The Singing Children of Africa will perform as part of their tour I Smile. It’s an exciting evening filled with energetic and uplifting performances. No entrance charge. A special evening, Shining a Light on the Priory, presented by Malcolm Parsons, is on at 7 pm in the Priory. This will be an illustrated talk on the history of the Nave, from Henry VIII to today, followed by a full demonstration of the new lighting and a glass of wine. Free Entry. Everybody welcome. Parking at the Priory for all the evening events. The Boyle and Petyt harvest show is on Saturday at 2pm, with an the array of exhibits from the children and adults. Cream teas, a cake stall, games and a pet show will all feature.

Ingleton Sue Brown, 015242 41835 Parish Council: At the September meeting of Ingleton Parish Council, a member of the public raised the matter of the refurbishment of the railings by Jenkin’s Beck. After discussion it was agreed by the meeting to pursue this matter with North Yorkshire County Council. Another member of the public brought up the problem of parking and it was agreed that councillors would support a review of current parking restrictions. An honesty box has been installed at the park toilets. Coun Ward reported the wall at the Middle School along Laundry Lane was in need of repair and it was agreed to request NYCC to action this and to cut the hedge which was obstructing the footway. The clerk updated members on the situation regarding the damaged street light on Bentham Road and all agreed it should be replaced. Coun Metcalfe reported there was now a Chapel-le-Dale newsletter also work had been progressing on the B4RN project over the weekend. Coun McGonnigal raised the matter of opening out the view of the village by pruning the trees on the steps from the Community Centre car park down to Main Street and the chairman will raise this at the next Village Action Team meeting. Coun Macaulay confirmed 16 local residents had expressed interest in taking allotments and he felt the next step was a meeting to form a committee. Coun Lis confirmed NYCC had refused permission for Craven Wanderers juniors to use their section of the Middle School field and the football facility at Burton was mentioned as an alternative possibility. He also confirmed the lorry park was under consideration for housing as it was believed there would be sufficient space on the Community Centre car park for overnight HGVs. Ingleton in Bloom had requested that Craven District Council (CDC) clear the pile of branches that they have collected. Coun Lis will contact CDC but he felt that if they refuse, then the Parish Council should action this.
Produce Show: The 46th Women’s Institute Produce, Arts and Crafts, Floral Art and Pot Plant Show will be held on Saturday at 1pm in the Ingleborough Community Centre. Admission is 50p, children are free.
Langcliffe Helen Jarvis, 01729 825303 Angel Festival: To give people ideas for creating angels for their doors and windows for the St John’s Church Angel Festival, there will be a workshop in church on Monday, 4-8pm. Settle Gill O’Donnell, 01729 825639 Railway Walks: On Saturday there is a 12-mile moderately strenuous circular walk departing from Horton in Ribblesdale at 9.58am. On there is a walk from Richmond to Easby Abbey as part of the ‘get walking’ series. This is a five-mile easy walk and is suitable for families, but not for buggies as there may be stiles to cross. The walk leaves Ribblehead at 10.28am and will return there at the end of the day. A service bus is used to and from the walk area. Featuring the work of Escape Tunnel Crafts, the exhibitiond illustrates their quirky take on everyday objects. Victoria Hall: Gordon Steel stages his play Grow up Grandad, today. This is a pay ‘what you feel’event. The music of Simon and Garfunkel is brought to life tomorrow by songwriters Tim Chu and Ian Bailey. On Saturday ‘Blues’ presents 100 years of blues. with 90 minutes to play it. On September 22 the hall welcomes Lulo Reinhardt and Andre Krengel in a celebration of guitar magic. Then on September 23, legendary radio star David Hamilton presents the hits of yesteryear. On September 24 the hall once again welcomes the talented West Yorkshire Savoyards for their annual Gilbert and Sullivan performance. This year they return to ‘The Mikado’. Operatic Society: Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Settle Amateur Operatic Society production The Likes of Us from Victoria Hall. The show is the first collaboration by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber and was written in 1965 but not performed until 2005. It is based on the true story of philanthropist Dr Barnardo. The show will be staged October 26-29 at 7.30pm, with a matinee at 2.30pm on the Saturday. Group and family tickets available.

Messy Church: The next Messy Church session will take place at St John’s Hall on Sunday 3.30-5.30pm. Photographic Group: Following their exhibition around the town and at Clapham the group next meets at Townhead Court on Monday at 7.30pm. This event is the annual print exhibition, an informal competition in which members are invited to submit up to two A4 prints and other members vote for their favourites. The gallery for the evening will be on the theme ‘Black and White’.
Tramps Season: The new season of foreign language films begins at Tramps in Victoria Hall with a showing of Tabu on September 28.

Skipton Women’s Institute: The Happy Bundays WI enjoyed a talk by the team from Coffee Care who shared their story with a presentation and tasting session. The next meeting is on Monday at Champions Church, Skipton, at 8pm when international opera singer Bibi Heal will lead a singing evening.
Holy Trinity: On Friday Craven College’s Awards Ceremony will be held in the church at 6pm. On Sunday there will be a Holy Communion service at 8am, a Parish Communion service at 9.45am and an Evening service at 6pm. On Tuesday the Toddle into Church activities for babies and pre-school children are in the Vestry Rooms, 2-3pm. On Wednesday there is Holy Communion at 10.45am using the historical version of the service from The Book of Common Prayer. The coffee shop opens 10am-2pm, Wednesday to Friday, and the café, with a wider menu, on Saturday from 10am-3pm.
Trinity Methodist: The church coffee morning is on Saturday at 10am, with proceeds going to Belize to assist victims of Hurricane Earl. Bishop Roosvelt Papouloute from Belize visited Trinity Methodist Church in July.
Italian Circle: The Skipton Italian Circle will meet at 8pm on Thursday at the Soroptimist Rooms, Otley Street. Barbara Henderson will give a presentation (in English) on: ‘Casa Cuseni: A House in Sicily.’ Admission free for members and £5 for visitors.
Christ Church: Family Eucharist will be held in Christ Church on Sunday at 9.30am, and the regular Wednesday Service of Holy Communion will take place at 9.30am. Christ Church Brownies meet on Wednesdays, 6.15-7.30pm and Toddler Praise will take place at 10.30am, also on Wednesdays.
St Mary’s: St Mary’s Carleton Coffee Pot will take place 2-4pm tomorrow, Friday. A Service of Bread, Wine and Worship will take place on Sunday at 11am.
Silsden Linda Berry, 01535 654643 Amnesty International: Silsden Amnesty International Group is holding its annual coffee morning on Saturday in the Methodist Church 9.30-11.30am. Members are campaigning for a medical assessment of Lui Ping, a Chinese factory worker who was sentenced to imprisonment for publicly demanding Chinese officials declare their wealth.

History Group: Silsden Local history group is planning a visit to the last remaining steam operated weaving mill and looms at Burnley. The visit costs £15 and takes place tomorrow, Friday, 1pm. Contact Barbara on 07768 065268 to reserve a place.
Wellbeing Cafe: Silsden and District Wellbeing Café at Silsden Methodist Church meets on the third Thursday of the month. The next is today. For more information contact Andrea on 07956 543031. Learn to crochet, knit, cross stitch etc at the Methodist Church on Wednesday, 9.30am-noon.
Stainforth John Manning, 01729 822547 Harvest Thanksgiving: There will be a celebration of Harvest Thanksgiving at St Peter’s Church on Sunday at 4pm. The service will include visiting choir, Bentham Praise. This will be followed by an auction of flowers, fruit and vegetables, with Kyle Handy acting as auctioneer.
Steeton Steeton Methodist Church is holding a Village Show on Saturday, 10am-noon. The following classes can be entered by any age, 20p per class. Adults and children will have separate prizes. Class 1 Longest Runner Bean; Class 2. Biggest Potato; Class 3 Miniature Garden – garden in a cake tin,plant pot, seed tray etc; Class 4 Pencil drawing of a tree; Class 5 Insect made from paper; Class 6 Handwriting ( Chorus of All Things Bright and Beautiful ); Class 7 Decorated Cup Cake fit for a Queen; Class 8 Three identical homemade biscuits. All entries to the Chapel entrance hall by 9.30am on the day. There will be refreshments, a cake stall and tombola. All welcome. Proceeds for new windows in the church.
Upper Wharfedale Sheila Denby 01756 752605 Kilnsey Squirrels: Red Squirrel Day at Kilnsey Park Estate will be celebrated on Sunday, October 2. It features a behind-the-scenes tour of the park’s colony of red squirrels and includes information on what can be done to help these endangered creatures to survive. Singers Search: New tenors and basses are being sought for Buckden Singers, the community choir. Anyone interested should attend the rehearsal this evening at 7.15pm in Buckden Village Institute.
Parish Meeting: The next parish meeting for Hetton-cum-Bordley takes place on September 27 at 7.30pm in Hetton Chapel School Room.
Toddlers Group: The Baby and Toddler group for Hetton and Bordley meets on Tuesday mornings 10am-noon in Hetton Methodist Church School Room. There is a £1 donation per family.
Shoes Talk: The speaker at the last Rylstone Women’s Institute meeting was Linda Sawley, whose topic was ‘Shoes - Their History and Mine’. The next meeting ison October 6 when Beryl Bamforth will talk about ‘Life on the Wicked Stage.’ Schools Consultation: A consultation meeting on the federation of Burnsall VA, Cracoe and Rylstone VC, Grassington VC and Kettlewell primary schools will take place on September 26, at 7pm, at St Margaret Clitherow RC Church, Threshfield.
