THE world’s most famous steam engine will thunder over the Settle-Carlisle line twice on Saturday (July 20) hauling one of the world’s most luxurious trains.
Flying Scotsman will pull the seven ornately-decorated Pullman carriages of the Northern Belle over the route from Preston to Carnforth.
There will be a great photo opportunity at Chatburn where the locomotive is scheduled to stop for between nine and 11 minutes during both journeys to take on water.
The Northern Belle is timed to pass through Hellifield at 12.46pm and then 9.55pm and Settle at 12.49 and 9.59 on the outward journeys.
Then after reaching Carnforth the train will return both times to Preston via Morecambe Bay.
This should be a great sight for railway fans, seeing the world’s most famous steam locomotive pulling one of the world’s most luxurious trains over one of the world’s greatest railway routes between Settle and Carlisle.
Both Network Rail and Northern Belle managing director Jeanette Snape have pleaded with people not to risk their lives by trespassing on the tracks in their eagerness to take pictures.
Ms Snape said: “We know this will be a big attraction, but while we want as many people as possible to see the train and get photographs, we also want everybody to stay safe.
British Transport Police plan to have officers on board to photograph trespassers whop put themselves or the train in danger.
