INSPIRED by the #FromMyWindow initiative during the Covid19 lockdown, part-time Steeton with Eastburn Vicar Rev David Coleman has offered a novel twist on Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous fresco.
Rev Coleman’s mixed-media interpretation, featuring famous sons and daughters of West Yorkshire, has quickly become a talking point in the village and it’s even been re-tweeted by Keighley’s Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs.
Rev Coleman said: "Some churches have focussed on broadcasting services, but I thought I’d do something a bit different and challenge myself in a new way.
"I thought I’d do something to cheer up parishioners who walk past the vicarage and give them something to consider for Holy Week like who would they like to have round their own communion table.
"These West Yorkshire folks offer everything from magic, sport, politics, music, comedy, poetry, art and theatre."
The fresco features from left to right- David Hockney, Ted Hughes, Mollie Sugden,Dynamo, J.B Priestley, Kiki Dee, Ricky Wilson, the Brownlee brothers, Alan Bennett, Nicola Adams and Alastair Campbell.
The table is prepared with fish and chips, Yorkshire Tea, Timothy Taylor’s beer, Parkin, local Chamley’s pies, high tea from Betty’s tea rooms and fruit from the local fruit bowl shop.
