FRIENDS of Silsden Town Hall have set up a new scheme - Cobbydale Connected - aimed at getting older people used to new technology.

The group, which is working in partnership with digital company Worth Connecting, says it is an attempt to help those who may have experienced isolation and loneliness during the coronavirus pandemic by becoming more IT savvy and better connected.

Over 55 year olds in and around Silsden are being offered Samsung Android Tablets to try out for up to six weeks, with tuition and support in popular digital activities.

The tablets can also come with a SIM card so that they can be connected to the internet without the need for broadband to be installed at home.

The current coronavirus restrictions mean that tuition for now is carried out on the telephone, but once it is safe to do so, the group hopes it can be offered in person.

Paul Kilgallon, chairman of Silsden Town Hall, said: “We want to help our residents to connect with family and friends, as well as participate in online groups that will reduce their feelings of isolation.

“If you, or someone you know, want to be able to use a digital device to find information, make social connections or to benefit from online services, Cobbydale Connected can help.”
