A DRIVER who tested negative for drugs driving did have a small bag of cannabis in his car, heard Skipton Magistrates Court.

Alistair Wood, 30, was stopped by police on August 23 last year as he drove along Church Road, Linton, the court was told on Friday.

Police suspected him of drugs driving, but a test showed he was below the limit.

Officers did however find a small amount of the class B controlled drug in his car, the court heard.

Wood, who admitted possession of a class B controlled drug, told the court he was having a bad time when he had been stopped by police. It was during the coronavirus lockdown and he was ‘smoking a lot of weed’. He said he was now back at work and not taking drugs as much as he was.

Wood, of Greenhaw, Linton Falls, was fined £160 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £34.

Magistrates made a forfeiture and destruction order on the drugs seized by police.
