STAFF at Glusburn Community Primary School have been ‘stepping out’ to keep fit, while at the same time raising money for causes close to their hearts.

With the well being of staff and pupils at the forefront of minds, the school’s head and deputy head teachers - with the backing of governors, came up ways to look after staff wellbeing.

They invited staff to get fit, mentally and physically and at the same time raise much needed funds for local cancer charities.

Staff thought it was a brilliant idea and each donated to ‘March in March for Cancer’ in support of local barber Chris Riley ‘The Life of Riley’ and Manorlands Hospice. A total 35 members of staff vowed to ‘march’ 10,000 steps a day for the cause.

Richard Hunt, headteacher, said :”The results have been amazing, helped along by the promise of a prize for the most steps each week. With staff divided into their bubbles, it has brought a much needed buzz back to the team, with staff comparing their daily step tally and quietly competing for prizes.

“We have collectively managed to raise £450, some of which was kindly donated by an ex Deputy Head of the school, staff are healthier, fitter and spirits are high in preparation for whatever lies on the path ahead.”
