A NEW series of exercise classes has been launched at a Steeton nursing home to boost residents’ physical and mental wellbeing.

The first lockdown meant many fitness and music sessions at Currergate, which were hosted by external specialists, had to stop.

But now activity co-ordinators and care workers at the home have been trained to take on the role of exercise coaches and specialist equipment has been acquired.

Residents are taking part in sessions including chair aerobics, stretching, seated marches and catching and throwing, together with gentle resistance movements and musical activities.

Konrad Czajka – managing director of Czajka Care Group, which runs the home – said: “We understand what an important role exercise and movement plays in both the everyday life of older people and in assisting rehabilitation.

“We have been proactive, learning new skills and ensuring that our residents are still able to get together at least once a week in a group setting to take part in exercise and movement classes. With an inclusive and welcoming approach, we ensure everyone feels comfortable.”
