A DRIVER who crashed her car after drinking the night before was over the alcohol limit, heard Skipton Magistrates Court.

Patricia McWilliam, 37, was on her way back home to Malham from Skipton at about 9am on February 11 when she crashed her Renault Clio into a fence on the A65 in Gargrave, the court heard today (Friday).

Police found McWilliam standing next to her car, she admitted being the driver and following a positive roadside test she was arrested. At Harrogate Police Station she was found to have 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

McWilliam, who admitted drink driving told police she could not remember much about what had happened.

In mitigation, Siobhan White said McWilliam had felt fine to drive after drinking the night before and believed she must have lost control of her car on ice.

McWilliam, of Gordale Court, Malham, was banned from driving for 20 months and was fined £200. She will also have to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £34. If she completes a drink driver rehabilitation course, her ban will be reduced by 20 weeks.
