A SKIPTON man who stole two bottles of Jack Daniel's whiskey has been given a conditional discharge after magistrates decided it was a ‘one off’.
Liam Brennan, 39, went into Morrison’s Supermarket in Skipton on November 23, and put two bottles together worth £50, into his rucksack, the Skipton court heard on Friday.
He was seen by staff, who recognised him from a previous attempt, and was stopped before he left the store. The police were called and the bottles recovered.
Brennan, who admitted theft, had been short of money at the time and had taken the whisky with the intention of selling it on, the court heard.
Mitigating, Keith Blackwell, said Brennan had taken a chance and had not put up any opposition when challenged by staff.
He had difficulties in his life which he was now trying to resolve, said Mr Blackwell.
Magistrates told Brennan, of Keighley Road, Skipton it had not been a sophisticated theft and they believed it was a one off.
He was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £22 surcharge.
