LITTER picking group Wharfedale Wombles has redesigned an litter bin in Grassington Square to turn it into a dedicated recycling bin.
Funding from Craven District Council has enabled the transformation. Most of the waste placed in the existing visitor bins is recyclable. This smart new bin is a very cost effective alternative to a new dedicated recycling bin which would cost around £900.
Cathy Doyle, Wharfedale Wombles coordinator said: “Since Grassington lost it’s council recycling facilities at Colvend and Moor Lane we offered visitors no opportunity to recycle. We are now able to say at long last that we offer a recycling facility in Grassington for the benefit of visitors. We believe it is the only dedicated recycling bin in our Dale.”
Wharfedale Wombles has existed informally for over 15 years and is committed to improving the environment for locals and visitors.
