SPRINGBANK Care Home, in Silsden has completed its Dementia Friendly Keighley Recognition Award.

It shows that the home has completed a number of steps to not only ensure the organisation is dementia friendly, but also a number of their members of staff.

The care home now has ‘Dementia Champions’ members of staff who will be delivering dementia friends sessions to staff , residents families and businesses to create a dementia friendly community.

The family owned care home currently has 40 bedrooms including 10 for those with dementia, and has recently opened a second community for residents living with dementia, expanding this by another 13 beds.

The care home also has a dedicated area for those living with dementia, their families and also the community. Once Covid restrictions have eased, it will be used by Dementia Friendly Keighley to host events as well as provide information and signposting for those that need it in the local community.

Alex Lambert, the home’s registered manager, said “We are honoured to partner with Dementia Friendly Keighley, they have already provided invaluable support and information to help us provide the very best care we can for our residents. We look forward to welcoming them into our Home when restrictions allow, so they can provide vital support for families in the community.”

Hannah Lindsey projects advisor, on behalf of Dementia Friendly Keighley said “We would like to thank Springbank Care Home for their very detailed action plan and look forward to working with the care home to put the actions in place.”

Director Steven Spellman said: “We’ve operated care homes in the local area for over 30 years and we are passionate about providing high quality care, Dementia Friendly Keighley help support us to do this.

“ With the investment in our new dementia community at Springbank, Primrose, we are continually improving the care we provide. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our home once we are able to open the doors again.”

Dementia Friendly Keighley is asking organisations, businesses and community projects to join it and pledge to become more dementia friendly, so that people with dementia, their carers and families can have better access to services and support and be more fully integrated in their communities.
