PEOPLE in Craven are being urged to plant a tree in commemoration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year.
Next year, HM Queen Elizabeth will have been on the throne for 70 years, and the North Yorkshire Lieutenancy is backing the ‘Green Canopy’ initiative, which encourages people to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.
Not only will it mark Her Majesty’s long reign, but it will also provide a legacy for future generations to enjoy and help tackle climate change.
Everyone, schools, parishes and businesses, are being asked to plant trees at the start of the tree planting season in October, through to the end of jubilee year, 2022.
The Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Johanna Ropner, said: “With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage tree planting to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the nation, which will benefit future generations.”
