LANGCLIFFE Singers get back to business tomorrow (Tuesday) with the first ‘live’ rehearsals in 18 months.

The choir will be led by their new musical director, Darren Everhart, who took over from Nigel Waugh, who retired from the choir earlier this year.

The singers will be rehearsing for Handel’s Messiah for a performance at 7pm in Settle Parish Church on December 18.

Taking part will be professional soloists, and an invitation has been put out for singers from the area to join the choir.

New members are always needed, particularly tenors and basses. No auditions are held and it is not necessary to read music.

Darren, previously conductor of Settle Orchestra, is well known in musical circles in the Settle area. He also runs regular summer schools at Giggleswick School.

In 2006, he was appointed Director of Music at Giggleswick School. In 2012 he moved to Italy to become Director of Music at St George’s British International School in Rome.

He and his family moved back to the UK in 2020 and Darren was re-appointed to his position at Giggleswick School.

Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings at St John’s Methodist Church Hall, Settle. To find out more about joining Langcliffe Singers visit: langcliffesingers.org.uk, or email the secretary, Robin Knipe: rob251@icloud.com.
