MORE than 30 members of Addingham Civic Society braved the cold to attend the unveiling of the newly restored Best Kept Village Award Sign which was first installed in 1997.

On December 1 they were joined by Addingham Parish Clerk, Sallie Lloyd and Addingham Civic Society Chairman Jim Robinson, who outlined the background to this project highlighting the amazing craftsmanship by ‘Brian the Brush’ who is based in Bradford. Brian has many claims to fame including the fact that he has been recently undertaken some specialised restoration work at the Tower of London which ended up with an appearance on national TV.

Mr Robinson said: "The Society was delighted to have completely restored this award. It stands near the centre of the village, on an elevated site at the bottom of Old Station Way, for everyone to see.

"Thanks must go to our President Don Barrett, Vice President Jonathan White and our Parish Council for their very generous donations, which covered the cost of the work."

The fully restored award and post (complete with a carving by the Mouseman of Kilburn) makes for a very picturesque setting at the bottom of Old Station Way. Photographs to mark the occasion were taken by Harry Jevons.
