DOMESTIC collections in Craven over the Christmas and New Year holiday will remain unchanged.

Residents can expect their general and recycled waste to be taken away on usual collection days because Christmas Day this year falls on a weekend.

There will however be changes to some commercial waste collections. Recycled waste will be collected on usual days, but non recyclable waste will be collected a day later

Craven District Council's customer services reception, Belle Vue Square, Broughton Road, will close at 12 midday on Christmas Eve, Friday; and will re-open on Tuesday, January 4.

The council will not be taking away Christmas trees free of charge this year, following limited take up in previous years. It says there has also been limited economic and environmental benefit.

Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice is however running a collection service in exchange for a donation to the charity.

Residents can also take Christmas trees to the household waste recycling centres at Skibeden, Skipton, and at Sowarth Field Industrial Estate, Settle.

Anyone with extra items for recycling over the festive holiday can place it in clear plastic sacks and leave it next to their blue recycling bins to be collected.

Clear plastic sacks can be collected at stores in villages and towns across the district.
