Bolton Abbey

Rector’s message: This coming Sunday is the third Sunday before Lent otherwise known as Septuagesima. It marks the beginning of preparation for Lent and is so named as it is now seventy days before Easter. There are three such Sundays before Lent but they have largely fallen out of use save for the Book of Common Prayer. As this Sunday marks the start of our preparation for Lent, traditionally it became the custom to celebrate the beginning of the world namely creation itself. Whether we hold to this tradition or not, thinking about creation is of critical importance to us all. We have despoiled creation though our insatiable consumption and greed. We have sown the seeds of our destruction on this planet and there is no plan[et] B. This should be the first item on everyone’s agenda, political or religious.

Church news: The Church is now open every Sunday for the 8 am and10.30 am services and Wednesday for the 10 am Service. The Tower remains open for private prayer but the Church is closed during the week, For the audio services, the weekly sheet and magazine please look at: www.boltonpriory.church
