NOMINATIONS are being invited for the 28th annual Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards.

The awards mark the achievements of outstanding young people under 35 years old. The awards dinner, held at the Leeds United Elland Road ground on November 17, will be the first one to be held since 2019, and is the main fundraiser for the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation which makes grants to young people and youth organisations.

Chairman Peter McCormick OBE said: “Everyone has faced challenges during the Covid pandemic and this is an excellent opportunity to mark the achievements of those who have overcome them or have gone above and beyond to help others in some way.”

The launch of the 2022 Awards was marked with a reception for sponsors and supporters at the West Park Hotel in Harrogate. It was also attended by new ambassadors to the foundation, previous winners and grant recipients Katie Gill, from Leeds, and Jessica Mayho, from Cononley.

Jessica, a hammer thrower, who now lives in Leeds, kept up her training throughout the lockdowns to achieve her personal best throw of 69.44m last summer. She took the British title in both 2019 and 2020 and was fourth in the European Throwing Cup in March.

Nominations are sought for personality of the year, youngster of the year, unsung hero, achievement in the arts, achievement in education, achievement in management and enterprise, achievement in sport, and a special award.
