COUNCILLOR Simon Myers was last night (Tuesday) elected the last Chairman of Craven District Council.
Cllr Myers told the annual meeting of the council it was a 'bitter-sweet' moment to be taking on the role of Craven's first citizen in the last year of the council before it is replaced by the new unitary North Yorkshire Council in April, 2023.
Cllr Myers, a Conservative, represents Gargrave and Malhamdale on the district council.
At the May local council elections he was elected to represent the Mid Craven division of North Yorkshire County Council.
He has been appointed one of the 10 members on the council executive, responsible for growth, culture, leisure sport and housing.
