THE Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations are taking off in a big way in Lothersdale this weekend - and it is hoped they will match previous jubilee events in the village.
There will be a lighting of a beacon on Pinhaw Moor on Thursday at 9.45pm. People are asked to gather at the village’s Hare and Hounds Inn at 9pm before setting off for the moor.
On Sunday, a whole day of events starting off with a church service at 10am and then a coffee morning at the village hall.
There are competitions for all ages with a village ‘bake-off’ where sweet or savoury puddings ‘fit for a Queen’ will be judged.
Children can decorate a corgi and make a Royal ‘Titfer’ – Cockney rhyming slang for a hat.
Red, white and blue tractors will then lead a fancy dress procession from the hall to the village recreation ground at 2pm where there will be a party in the park with barbecue, food and drink stalls and a special version of 'Lothersdale’s Got Talent'.
