MEMBERS of the Craven Lawn Tennis Club in Gargrave defied the unseasonable weather and threw themselves into a special team tournament during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend.
On a very cold Sunday, several members played a one off tournament before joining in a specially laid on 'big lunch' followed by a 'tennis tea''. Highlight of the celebratory spread was a jubilee cake made and designed by Alex Sissling.
Winners of the tournament were the Unicorns who beat the Lions by 104 games to 96.
Craven Lawn Tennis Club, Smithy Croft Road, has four grass and three all weather tennis courts, so members can play all year round. The club also has a croquet section that play through the summer months. Its members play socially and competitively.
Non-members are welcome to sample what is on offer at the club by attending social tennis sessions on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings during the season.
