POLICE carrying out speed checks in Cowling yesterday (Wednesday) evening recorded drivers through the village, which has a 30mph limit, travelling at up to 54mph.

Between 7pm and 9pm on the A6068, a Skipton enforcement officer recorded speeds of 51mph, 52mph and 54mph.

The North Yorkshire Traffic Bureau tweeted this morning: "Our Skipton officer carried out enforcement in #Cowling #A6068 last night between 7pm-9pm.

"This was following reports from residents concerned about vehicles travelling to fast & anti social driving through the village (30mph limit). Sad to report speeds of 54mph, 52mph and 51mph."
