PEOPLE setting out on walks are being urged to make sure they keep hydrated during the current hot spell after a woman in her 70s fainted on the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail.
The 77 year old woman, who has a history of low blood pressure, lost consciousness yesterday (Wednesday) early afternoon, when it was very hot and sunny, as she approached Thornton Force on the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail.
A spokesperson for the Clapham based Cave Rescue Organisation said: "She regained consciousness after fainting but was unfit to walk further. A passer-by, who is a nurse, stayed with the patient, in the shade, while the patient’s daughter moved to where she could telephone the police to call CRO.
"Members helped the patient on to a stretcher then wheeled her to a team Land Rover, waiting at the old quarry. After assessment by a team doctor, the patient was driven to the trail car park and transferred to her daughter’s car for the return to their holiday accommodation. The YAS road ambulance was stood down en route."
The spokesperson added: "The outward leg of the Waterfalls Trail can be strenuous for people who are not regular walkers. During the current spell of beautiful weather, it’s a good idea to carry an ample supply of water, stopping occasionally to admire the view and having a drink to avoid dehydration and heat exhaustion."
