THERE was a celebratory mood at Ermysted’s Grammar School in Skipton today as A-level students gathered to reflect on their successes.
It is the first year that the students have been able to sit external exams, following their cancellation over the last two years due to the pandemic.
Michael Evans, headteacher, said it had been a tremendous achievement for the students.
He said: “It is particularly impressive that despite the challenges the students have faced over the last few years, 12 students attained a clean sweep of the top grade of A*.
"More important is the fact that so many of our students have secured their chosen destination and are now looking forward to the next stage of their education and career. We wish them all the best in the future.”
Adam Jackson, deputy headteacher, added: “The students have shown great character and fortitude throughout the pandemic; it has been wonderful to see so many relieved and happy faces in school. I would like to extend my congratulations to the year group.”
The vast majority of students secured a place at university for September across a range of institutions both at home and abroad.
Others will now commence training or enter the workplace, with a few intending to take a gap year and apply in 2023, says the school.
