LAWKLAND Young Farmers Club’s 82nd annual show, the first since 2018, made a welcome return when staged at Eldroth Village Hall, attracting a robust 200-plus entries across 47 classes.
There were ten sheep classes, two for calves, 20 covering horticulture and handicrafts, supplemented by classes for under-10s, parents and former members, creating across-the-board interest and participation.
The champion sheep was a Texel gimmer lamb from ten-year-old John North, of Giggleswick, with the reserve championship falling to a Swaledale ewe from 11-year-old Erin Booth, of Feizor. Champion indoor exhibit was a vegetable animal from another 11-year-old, Bentham’s Ellie Atkinson.
Other trophy winners were: Champion dairy calf - Jonathan Atkinson; most points in horticulture section - Cerys Robinson; Juniors Handicraft Cup - Rosie Garth; Seniors Handicraft Cup - Georgia Thornton; best turned out young farmer - Belle Whitwell. A special prize for the tallest thistle was won by Keasden’s Paddy Garth.
Club President Andrew Booth presented prizes, with organisers deeming the whole event an overwhelming success, a great family day and nice to be back doing something normal. Lawkland YFC continues to thrive with 23 active members. Anyone requiring further information about Young Farmers should call County Office on 01423 546170.
