SETTLE College has announced some outstanding achievements by its students for the second time in a fortnight, this time in their GCSEs and other vocational qualifications this summer.
The college has seen a 4 per cent rise in overall outcomes for students achieving English and maths at 4+ compared to the last time official exams took place in 2019. Nearly half the cohort achieved an average of a top grade 5 in all their GCSE outcomes.
Standout performances for individuals include Hugh Vincent, who achieved eight grade 9s this summer at GCSE. He is going on to study A-levels at Settle College. Hugh will be studying biology, chemistry, geography and Spanish at A-level. George Archer, another student moving into sixth form, was ecstatic over his results.
Like many students over the past weeks and days Isabelle Laycock has been anxiously awaiting today.
She said: “I worked so hard over the last two years, I’m really pleased.” She is now going on to study English language, history and Spanish.
Ewan Greenep has dreamed of doing A-levels but was concerned he wouldn’t get there. However, through absolute hard work and determination he has achieved over two grades above his targets across the board.
Erin Holgate couldn’t contain her excitement and said she is very, very happy and Bella Spensley simply stated she was over the moon. Bella is driven to want to study sport at Loughborough once she has completed her A levels.
As part of the stage not age curriculum run at Settle College, year 10 students also received two GCSEs this year, with a fifth of the year group achieving grade 7 - 9 in their two options.
Gareth Whitaker, the college’s headteacher said: “It has been a great day of celebration as students have picked up their results, signing up to courses at the college or heading off to sign up at other colleges. It is great to see students return for result’s day as we can wish them well once more on their next step of their journey where they aren’t staying with us.
"We wish them all every success. It has been a busy fortnight with A-level results last week, GCSE results today and our summer school happening throughout last week for our new year 7 students.”
For students looking to go onto study A levels at the College enrolment began straight after the students collected their results. For anyone else interested they are to get in touch with the head of sixth form, Simon Murphy on s.murphy@settlecollege.n-yorks.sch.uk
