A CROSS Hills dad is running the New York City Marathon in tribute to a man who died earlier this year after a brave battle against cancer.
James Bailey is tackling the November 6 event to raise money for Sue Ryder, which runs Manorlands hospice at Oxenhope.
His effort is in memory of Steeton man Chris Riley.
"Chris led life to the full and was much loved by his family and many friends," says James, 42.
"Chris' mum Mandy – who works at Glusburn Primary School – and stepdad Richard Hunt, who until recently was headteacher there, along with all other members of staff have provided a great start in life for my daughter Lucy."
Supporting James on the day will be his wife Jo, son Tommy and Lucy.
The Co-op is providing a running T-shirt and helping with promotion.
Donations in memory of Chris can be made at chrisriley.muchloved.com.
