SKIPTON-based Craven Energy Triathlon Club has four athletes qualified to race for GB next year in their respective age groups.
Head coach, Mark Taylor has been selected for European and World Duathlon, World Aquabike and both European and World Sprint Triathlon; Richard Purnell for European and World Sprint Distance Triathlon, Robin Jones and Caroline Lockyer for World Standard Distance Aquabike Championships.
Robin said: “At age 70 I still get the chance to compete for GB, how cool is that?” Caroline, balancing home and work, says “last summer I decided to focus on the two disciplines I enjoy most and I’m really pleased with the result of that hard work.”
Richard competed for the GB Team in Canada at the World Championships this year and added “I’m over the moon to have qualified for both World Champs and European Champs in 2023. A huge thanks to the Coaches at Craven Energy for their support and training to enable me to achieve such milestones. It also looks like I’m inspiring my family with my wife Gilly & my two young grandchildren Harry & Edith to take up the sport which is just brilliant ”
Craven Energy is a small, friendly Triathlon and Multisport club with a diverse membership base from complete beginners looking to do their first GoTri through to experienced athletes who compete in Sprint, Olympic, Half and Full Iron events, they also have a large number of members who just enjoy the company and social aspects of training together.
Peter Simpson, Chairman said “what a fantastic achievement for Caroline, Robin, Richard and Mark ! It’s great to see some of our athletes show what’s possible from dedication, focused training and a fantastic team of Coaches.”
Despite a challenging time during COVID in 2020 Craven Energy were voted Yorkshire Triathlon Club of the year and were 3rd in the National competition.
Next year Craven Energy will be welcoming back the ever popular Skipton Tri in May 2023 and novices as well as veteran athletes are all welcome to this family friendly event
